Camping on the Great Allegheny Passage is permitted in designated areas only. There are several campgrounds sponsored by trail organizations and other public entities. In addition, there are commercial campgrounds. We've listed the ones closest to the trail below.
YMCA Overnight Camping - (Commercial)
1.1 miles from mile post zero in Cumberland

The YMCA is just 1.1 miles from the junction of the terminus of the C&O Canal and beginning of the Great Allegheny Passage. Call the YMCA for reservations and directions. Fenced area for camping with eating shelter and picnic tables, barbeque grill and fire pit Indoor shower facilities and access to a complete wellness center, indoor pool, sauna and steam room. Firewood available for sale.

Up the switchback from the Frostburg Trailhead. Showers, towels provided, Potable water, Picnic tables, grills, Bike wash, Internet access, Coin-operated washer and dryer, and Cafe.

Mason-Dixon Campground - (Commercial)
About two miles from mile post 24

Campground is several miles from the trail, 150 yards into Somerset County, PA atop Big Savage Mountain. This campground is not readily accessible by bicycle from the trail. Campsites with full hook ups. Pull-throughs, back-ins, and lawn sites. Permanent bathroom facilities with hot showers. Potable water.

Deer Valley YMCA Camp - (Fee based, non-profit)
Uphill about three miles from mile post 35

This campground is not readily accessible by bicycle from the trail. Located at the base of Mount Davis, this campground is only appropriate for families and speciality groups. Reservations are required. Heated cabins with running water, Hot showers, Washers and dryers, Horseback riding, Waterfront swimming and Craft shop

Husky Haven Campground, Rockwood - (Commercial)
Mile Post 43

Near Mile Post 43 - right on the Great Allegheny. Open all year - $10 per night/per person camping. PRIMITIVE Campsites with potable water & bath house 6/10 mile from campsites. Other amenities include, Chemical toilets, Picnic table, trash cans, Fire ring, firewood, Bike wash and Pet friendly. Internet access and cell phone service are available in the office - 400 yards from Rockwood Trailhead (across bridge). There is spotty cell service in this area.

This campground is not readily accessible by bicycle from the trail. Reservations are required. Amenities include, Campsites with full hook ups, Fishing lake Shuttle service available, Permanent bathroom facilities with hot showers, and Potable water.

Camping information for groups biking the "Great Allegheny Passage" This campground is approximately 200 feet from the Great Allegheny Passage. Amenities include, Campsites with full hook-ups, Trail user area with tent space and fire rings, Permanent bathroom facilities with hot showers, and Potable water. Many other services are available in the town of Confluence.

Ohiopyle State Park - (Commercial)
Half mile (very steep) uphill from mile post 73

The trail connecting the Great Allegheny Passage to the Ohiopyle State Park Kentuck Campground is 0.43 miles in length (2249 ft) and has a change in elevation of roughly 300 feet. It is suggested that trail users walk their bikes while on the connector trail. Bikers should avoid using the roadways to get to the campground. Take marked side trail just north of Ohiopyle High Bridge near mile post 73 at GPS coordinate 39 o 52' 29.6" 79 o 29' 33.2". Bikers should continue through the campground to the contact station for registration.

  • The campground does completely fill on weekends and is best to have advanced reservations.

River's Edge Camping & Cabins features 100 RV sites, nearly 50 primitive tent sites, and full-service cabins, all of which are along the beautiful Youghiogheny River and the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail.

Pennsylvania camping offers great adventures on the river, in the mountains and on trails throughout the Laurel Highlands. Guests of River's Edge Camping & Cabins enjoy fishing from the banks of the Yough, swimming in an in-ground pool, biking the trail and just relaxing with friends soon to be known as family.

Dravo's Landing is directly behind Dravo Cemetery, six miles south of Boston Trailhead, one and one-half miles north of Buena Vista Trailhead - it is for trail users only - the campground is NOT accessible by car.
